What Is Critical Race Theory, and Why Is It Under Attack?

Simply put, critical race theory states that U.S. social institutions 

(e.g., the criminal justice system, education system, labor market, housing market, and healthcare system) 

laced with racism embedded in laws, regulations, rules, and procedures that lead to differential outcomes by race 

The Five Tenets of CRT There are five major components or tenets of CRT 

(1) the notion that racism is ordinary and not aberrational 

2) the idea of an interest convergence 

(3) the social construction of race 

(4) the idea of storytelling and counter-storytelling 

(5) the notion that whites
